Starbrix was founded in Finland in 1995 by Håkan Björk.
Before founding the company, Håkan worked as a researcher at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, where his work focused on areas such as robot design and simulation, factory simulation, Lean production, and continuous improvement.
Much of this work was carried out in projects. Håkan worked as a project manager on numerous projects and was also responsible for project follow-up within his organization. The projects involved close collaboration with customers, primarily Finnish industrial companies.
Through this experience, he saw first-hand what project organizations really needed: a project management tool that was easy enough for people to actually use, yet powerful and flexible enough for real-world projects. It also needed to make project information accessible regardless of where people were working.
That insight became the starting point for Starbrix.
Today, we at Starbrix have more than 30 years of experience in project management.
Over the years, we have worked closely with many different companies and been involved in countless projects. Throughout our history, one principle has remained particularly important: stay close to our customers and listen to what they actually need.
Starbrix has therefore not been developed based solely on theories about how projects should be managed. It has evolved through continuous interaction with the people who manage and work in real projects every day.
Over the past three decades, thousands of users have influenced what Starbrix can do and how it works. Their experience, ideas, requirements, and feedback have helped shape the product we offer today.
This is why we describe Starbrix as:
Built on 30+ years of project experience. Shaped by thousands of users.
Starbrix is a privately owned Finnish company. Today, the company is owned by founder Håkan Björk and his son Edvard Björk. The management team combines expertise in technology, business, finance, and marketing:
This combination of technical, financial, and commercial expertise supports both the continued development of Starbrix and the long-term development of the company.
Being privately owned gives us an important advantage: we can think and act for the long term.
We are not driven by quarterly reporting cycles, short-term investor expectations, or constant reorganizations. Instead, we can make decisions based on what we believe will create lasting value for our customers and for Starbrix.
At the same time, being an independent company allows us to remain agile. We stay close to our customers, and when their needs change or they have good ideas for improving Starbrix, we can react quickly.
That combination is fundamental to how we work:
Think long term. Stay close to our customers. React quickly when their needs change.
More than 30 years after Starbrix was founded, the original idea remains at the heart of everything we do: project management software should be easy to start using, flexible enough to adapt to different ways of working, and powerful enough for real projects.
